Studio For Performing Arts LA Is Turning Acting Training Into Real Hollywood Careers
By Malana Van Tyler
Los Angeles — November 12, 2025
In Los Angeles, where ambition and artistry often collide, one studio has quietly become a training ground for performers determined to turn passion into profession. Studio For Performing Arts LA (SPALA), founded by Walid Chaya, stands out for its distinctive blend of performance technique and real-world career development — a model that’s helping a new generation of actors move confidently from the classroom to the camera.
Chaya’s journey is itself a cross-continental story of creativity and cultural exchange. The Lebanese-American actor, director, and educator built his career across Washington, D.C., New York, and now Los Angeles, drawing on over eighteen years of experience in arts education. His vision for SPALA is rooted in one idea: that strong training means little without access and opportunity.
“Talent alone doesn’t sustain a career,” Chaya says. “Actors need tools, mentorship, and strategy — not just to work once, but to keep working.”
SPALA’s programs are designed to feel like a real production environment. Its Actors Super Scene Study and On-Camera Workshops immerse students in the demands of professional performance, while its VIP Guest Workshops connect them directly with casting directors, producers, and talent agents from major networks such as Netflix, NBC, HBO, Disney, and Paramount. Each program emphasizes industry literacy as much as performance craft — a balance that traditional conservatories often overlook.
Many alumni have gone on to sign with top agencies, book recurring roles, or gain admission to elite conservatories. Chaya attributes that success to SPALA’s commitment to merging art and industry. “We train actors to think like creative entrepreneurs,” he explains. “That means developing their craft, but also understanding the business that sustains it.”
Diversity and representation are central to Chaya’s mission. In 2022, he founded the MENASA Diversity Showcase, a groundbreaking platform spotlighting actors of Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian descent. The showcase drew industry attention for introducing underrepresented performers to Hollywood’s casting ecosystem — with many participants gaining professional representation shortly afterward.
“True inclusion isn’t about checking boxes,” Chaya says. “It’s about opening doors and giving people the visibility they deserve.”
Outside Los Angeles, Chaya continues to impact young artists through his company Moonlit Wings Productions, which develops theatre and film programs in partnership with schools and arts organizations nationwide. His work in Fairfax County, Virginia, and beyond has reached thousands of students, using the performing arts to cultivate leadership, collaboration, and cultural understanding.
As an artist himself, Chaya continues to balance teaching with creating. Audiences have seen him on screen in The Blacklist: Redemption and Madam Secretary, and his award-winning short film Darn It Darla! — a dark comedy exploring fame and artistic freedom — won Best Comedy Short at the 2025 Love Wins International Film Festival. He is currently developing Crazy Rich Arabs, his first original feature as a writer-producer, a cross-cultural dramedy set between Los Angeles and Beirut.
Still, Chaya says education remains his foundation. “When one artist succeeds, it lifts everyone,” he reflects. “That’s why I do this work — to help others build careers that last.”
Through both its in-person and global online programs, Studio For Performing Arts LA continues to equip actors not just to perform, but to thrive — proving that with the right guidance, the dream of a career in Hollywood doesn’t have to stay a dream at all.
