Rythmia: The Journey to Self-Discovery and Healing

Growing up, life was tough. Being overweight was like carrying a huge, invisible backpack filled with rocks. The mean comments from my family, the absence of real friends, and that constant feeling of being the odd one out, it was rough. I saw myself through a lens that only focused on the negatives, thanks to years of being bullied. But then, out of nowhere, came this opportunity to visit Rythmia. I thought, “Why not? It’s far away from everything and everyone.” Little did I know, this decision was about to flip my world upside down – in the best way possible.

Getting Ready for the Trip

In the weeks leading up to my trip, my life was a whirlwind of preparation and anticipation. I dove headfirst into everything I could find about Rythmia and Ayahuasca. I devoured “Shit the Moon Said” by Gerry Powell, absorbing every word and allowing his journey to fuel my own curiosity and hope. Documentaries became my nightly ritual, each story, each testimony about the healing powers of Ayahuasca adding to my growing excitement and respect. Podcasts filled my mornings, voices of healers and those who had walked this path before me whispering their wisdom into my ears.

I learned about the multitude of reasons people turn to this sacred plant medicine, psychedelics – for healing, for clarity, for liberation from the chains of past traumas. The stories of transformation resonated with me, reminding me that this journey was not just about physical healing, but about shedding the weight of emotional burdens I had carried for far too long.

Embracing the Rythmia Way

The moment I arrived at Rythmia, I felt like I stepped into a different universe. This place isn’t your typical vacation spot. It’s a haven where the air is filled with hope and the scenery is straight out of a dream. It’s an all-inclusive resort, but the luxury isn’t just in the comfy beds and the gorgeous views – it’s in the care and the healing they offer.

At Rythmia, I got to participate in these incredible Ayahuasca ceremonies. Picture this: a group of us, led by the wisest shamans you could imagine, diving deep into our inner worlds. It was intense, emotional, and absolutely transformative. Every session was like peeling off layers of pain and self-doubt, and finding a bit more of the real me underneath.

The yoga and meditation sessions had introduced a sense of discipline and calmness into my life. I remember the feeling of my muscles stretching and releasing tension during yoga, and the tranquility of the meditation sessions where the only sounds were the gentle instructions of the guide and the rhythmic breathing of fellow participants. These practices had become an anchor, reminding me to stay present and centered even amidst chaos.

The Dance of Liberation™ was perhaps the most liberating experience. One evening, under a starlit sky, we danced around a bonfire, our bodies moving freely, unburdened by judgments. It was a celebration of life, of freedom from the shackles of past traumas and societal expectations. I felt my spirit soar, unchained and wild, in those moments.

The friendships I formed at Rythmia were unlike any I had known. We shared stories, tears, and laughter, forging bonds that were rooted in genuine understanding and empathy. On the last night, we gathered around a bonfire, sharing our hopes and dreams, promising to support each other even after we returned to our respective lives.

And the meals – I can still taste the freshness of the farm-to-table dishes, each ingredient speaking of nature’s bounty and care. I remember the chefs explaining the health benefits of each meal, their passion for wholesome, nourishing food igniting a similar passion in me to treat my body with the respect and care it deserved.

Was it Worth it?

Absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt. The journey was intense, emotional, and at times challenging, but it brought me to a place of peace and self-acceptance that I had never known before. The physical weight I carried was nothing compared to the emotional burdens that I released at Rythmia. The connections, the insights, the laughter, and the tears – they were all part of a transformative process that reshaped not just how I viewed myself, but how I approached life.

How to Prepare for the Journey

  • Do Your Research: Like I did, immerse yourself in the knowledge about Rythmia and Ayahuasca. Read books, watch documentaries, and listen to podcasts to understand the journey you’re about to embark on.
  • Set Intentions, Not Expectations: Go with an open heart and mind. Set intentions for what you wish to achieve or explore, but release rigid expectations of what the experience should be like.
  • Pack Light, Travel Deep: Bring the essentials, but also bring an open and willing spirit. The real journey happens within, and the lighter you travel physically, the deeper you can journey spiritually.
  • Journal Your Journey: Bring a journal to capture your thoughts, feelings, and revelations. It’s not just a record; it’s a tool for reflection and understanding.
  • Embrace the Community: Don’t shy away from connecting with others. Rythmia is a gathering of souls, each on their own journey, but all on a shared path of healing and discovery.
  • Follow the Post-Retreat Guidelines: After the retreat, integrate the insights and changes slowly and gently into your life. Remember, the journey doesn’t end when you leave Rythmia; it’s just beginning.

As I left Rythmia, with my journal in one hand and a heart full of newfound wisdom and love, I knew that the journey wasn’t ending; it was just taking a new path. I was returning home not just to continue my life, but to enrich it with the practices, relationships, and insights I had gained.

The real journey, I realized, was just beginning. A journey of self-discovery, of nurturing not just the body, but also the soul, and of building a life that resonates with the truths and the peace I found in the heart of Costa Rica, in the nurturing embrace of Rythmia.

Zaruflo: For the Joy of Creating Music

Zaruflo is an independent multi-genre music producer. Zaruflo Productions blends hip-hop, R&B, and electronic elements into his unique music. Working on music and his future career as a professional pilot keeps him balanced, driven, and focused.

Zaruflo, also known as Imar Forbes, is an independent, self-made music producer. Zaruflo grew up in the Bronx in New York City. A natural creative, he developed his unique sound through experimentation and learning from other artists. Inspired by Beastboi and HOL!, he explores neo-dubstep, dubstep, hip-hop, R&B, and trap

“I started making my own music after spending time listening to my favorite artists and thinking, ‘What if I could make my own?’” says Zaruflo.

Music as a Source of Joy

For Zaruflo, making music provides a way to be creative and continue to improve his craft. He’s not interested in music fame or fortune, but makes music for the joy of it. “Growing up in a strict household, I changed my trauma into a superpower instead of sadness and worked to become the best version of myself,” explains Zaruflo. Zaruflo believes that difficult experiences in life can build personal strength and be used as motivation to create and grow.

Creating music provides both a challenge and a way to focus on fun throughout life’s ups and downs. Zaruflo continues to work on building his audience and expanding his listener base. Growth isn’t easy. Zaruflo currently works multiple jobs to support his music and his aviation education.

When independent artists like Zaruflo create, it expresses their unique experiences, struggles, and triumphs. In essence, through music, one can create connections in the world and share experiences in a positive manner.

Dual Goals in Zaruflo’s Journey

Zaruflo is not only a musician but also has a career goal to become a professional pilot. Once a pilot, Zaruflo plans to relax and expand his music through continued creation. Although music will play second fiddle to his Aviation pilot career, Zaruflo plans to continue working to gain more plays on streaming platforms and get noticed by celebrities and influencers. “My pilot career is going to be the biggest accomplishment I’ll ever achieve,” says Zaruflo. “Of course, if I ever become successful off music itself, that would be awesome!”

Future Aspirations and Direction

Zaruflo plans to dedicate himself to completing his aviation education and becoming a professional pilot. Music becomes an important, life-building hobby that brings joy and continual creative challenge. He wants to continue producing music and getting plays on multiple platforms. Achieving over 10,000 plays on a single track remains a secondary goal. The most important goal in music is continuing to learn from other artists and producing music that attracts listeners.

Zaruflo wants the world to hear his music. Knowing that listeners enjoy his creations makes him happy. It’s good to be popular, but for Zaruflo it’s mostly about having fun and enjoying life. Zaruflo’s audience enjoys listening to original music inspired by his Bronx upbringing and experience with a wide variety of genres. He is up for the challenge of attracting new listeners and continues to work on getting his music out to the public. Reaching listeners in a massively competitive market isn’t easy, but it’s possible. If you’re looking for a unique mix of sounds, check out Zaruflo’s music

Eugene Pallisco Breaks Down Five Wellness Foods That May Not Be as Healthy as You Think

Many foods marketed as “healthy” have developed superfood status on social media, with claims ranging from better gut health to improved energy, weight loss, and longevity. Personal trainer Eugene Pallisco says that while many of these foods can have a place in a healthy diet, their benefits are frequently overstated, and context matters just as much as the ingredient itself.

In many cases, the hesitation has less to do with the food itself and more to do with portion size, nutrient quality, processing, cost, or whether the scientific evidence matches the marketing. Here are five popular wellness foods that some nutrition coaches approach with caution.

  1. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are nutrient-dense, but they are sometimes overrated for people focused on increasing protein intake. Although they contain about 17 g of protein per 100 g, a typical serving of 1 to 2 tablespoons provides only around 2 to 4 g.

Chia seeds can reduce the absorption of minerals including iron, zinc, and calcium. While this is rarely an issue for people eating a varied diet, coaches working with clients who have mineral deficiencies may recommend other foods.

Their exceptionally high fiber content can also cause bloating, gas, or constipation in people with sensitive digestive systems or those who suddenly increase their fiber intake. At roughly 140 calories per two tablespoons, chia seeds can also contribute more calories than many people realize.

Healthy foods still count toward your daily calorie intake,” says Pallisco. “It’s important to look at the full nutritional picture rather than assuming every superfood deserves unlimited portions.”

  1. Sea Moss

Sea moss has become one of the wellness industry’s most talked-about products, yet high-quality human research remains limited.

Although it contains vitamins, minerals, and fiber, there is little evidence showing it provides benefits beyond those of a balanced diet. Its iodine content can also vary substantially depending on where it is harvested, potentially posing concerns for people with thyroid conditions.

Sea moss may also absorb heavy metals and other contaminants from ocean environments, making sourcing and third-party testing important considerations.

Many online claims involving immunity, gut health, hormone balance, energy, and weight loss remain unsupported by robust clinical research.

  1. Plant-Based Milk

Plant-based milks can be excellent alternatives to dairy, but their nutritional value differs considerably between products.

Many almond, oat, rice, and coconut milks contain just 1 to 3 g of protein per serving, compared with approximately 8 g in cow’s milk. Soy milk is the primary exception, offering a similar protein content.

Many products also contain added sugars, while others include gums, emulsifiers, stabilizers, and oils to improve texture and shelf life. For this reason, nutrition coaches commonly recommend choosing unsweetened, minimally processed varieties whenever possible.

  1. Store-Bought Bone Broth

Bone broth has earned a reputation as a wellness staple, but commercial products vary significantly in quality.

Some contain only a few grams of protein despite being marketed as collagen-rich. Sodium is another consideration, with many brands providing between 400 and 900 mg per serving. Others rely on concentrates, flavorings, and additives rather than traditional slow-simmering methods.

Pallisco notes that “Research supporting claims that bone broth directly improves joint health, skin, or gut health also remains limited, with much of the available evidence focusing on collagen supplements instead.”

  1. Coconut Cult

Coconut Cult has attracted attention because of its probiotic content, but nutrition coaches encourage realistic expectations.

Each serving is relatively high in saturated fat from coconut, making portion size important for people monitoring cholesterol levels. Although the product contains multiple probiotic strains, research on the product itself is limited, and probiotic effects depend on the specific strain, dose, and individual.

Some people may also experience bloating or digestive discomfort when introducing highly concentrated probiotic foods too quickly.

“Pursuing better nutrition doesn’t require chasing every trend,” Eugene Pallisco says. “Consistency with balanced eating habits will almost always deliver better long-term results than relying on any single food.”

Eugene Pallisco Explains The Bottom Line on “Healthy” Foods

None of these foods are inherently unhealthy, and most can absolutely fit into a balanced diet.

The reason some nutrition coaches are cautious is usually because of portion size, nutrient density, product quality, marketing claims, or how well a food aligns with an individual’s health goals.

Rather than labeling foods as “good” or “bad,” evidence-based nutrition focuses on the overall dietary pattern.

A diet built around a variety of whole, minimally processed foods will almost always have a greater impact on long-term health than any single trendy ingredient or superfood.

Book

He Never Said Goodbye. He Just Stopped Coming Home.

Some love stories don’t end. They just change where they live.

The Day Everything Went Quiet

In Letters to Tommi by Ryan Tate, a man comes upstairs to wake his partner for dinner. He finds him there, on the bed, still. No warning. No goodbye. Just the ordinary cruelty of a Tuesday afternoon that became the worst day of his life. Tommi — warm, funny, tall, Finnish, the man who hid little blue Post-it notes in jacket pockets and coat linings for Ryan to find — was gone. A cardiac arrest. Instant. And Ryan was left standing in a silence that has no name.

What do you do with a love that has nowhere to land?

He Kept Texting Him Anyway

Most people would have deleted the number. Ryan kept texting it.

“Hey Tom Tom, I can’t think what to cook for dinner, the kitchen was always your domain, any ideas?”

He knew there would be no reply. He said so himself: brain freeze, natural instinct, or hoping? But the instinct to reach for Tommi never switched off, because love doesn’t come with an off switch. Not the real kind.

Ryan slept three days on his side of the bed, three days on Tommi’s, one day in the middle. He kept buying daffodils because they reminded Tommi of spring. He still wore the white gold chain Tommi placed in his hand on a bridge on a cold winter night, when he asked Ryan to be his husband. He said it would never leave him. It hasn’t.

This is what Letters to Tommi understands that most books about grief get completely wrong. Love doesn’t end at death. It just loses its address.

Stop Telling Grieving People to Move On

Ryan’s friends meant well. They always do.

“Time will make it easier.” “You need to start living again.” “You were single before and fine.”

He forwarded every single one of those messages to Tommi’s phone. With barely disguised fury.

Because here is what nobody tells you about losing someone you were genuinely, completely, all-in in love with. The grief doesn’t move in stages. It moves like weather. Some mornings, he cleaned all eight rooms of the house to Tommi’s standard and felt almost steady. Some Friday nights, he sat alone with red wine and a Chinese takeaway for one and felt the darkness press in from every corner. Some nights, he wrote letters at 2am. Some nights, he found a hidden Post-it note in Finnish in his coat pocket and translated it with shaking fingers.

None of that is dysfunction. All of that is love, still doing what love does. Showing up, even when the person is gone.

The Truth This Book Tells

Letters to Tommi by Ryan Tate is not a self-help book. It has no five-step plan. It doesn’t promise you’ll be fine by spring.

What it does is sit beside you. The way Tommi used to sit beside Ryan, without fixing anything, without needing big words, just present. Just there.

Ryan wrote these letters for two reasons. To help others walking the same road. And to make sure the world doesn’t forget a big-eyed, glasses-wearing, sauna-loving, wardrobe-raiding Finnish man who made every room feel warmer just by being in it.

He succeeded on both counts.

If you have ever loved someone so completely that losing them broke something in you that hasn’t healed quite right, this book was written for you.

Some loves don’t fade with time. They just change where they live.
